Mike Garner

Mike Garner has lived in New Zealand since 1988 and has gained a reputation as one of NZ's most experienced blues performers. He has performed in the UK, Italy, Germany, Australia, New Caledonia, Japan, Kathmandu and the Cook Islands. Mike is a regular performer at jazz and blues festivals in New Zealand.

Mike's latest CD, "40 Below Blues", was released in October 2016.

A documentary was released early 2011 about Mike's trip to the Himalayan Blues Festival, Called "Kathmandu Blues.

“Cad’s Alley”, was released in April 2007. Mostly Mike’s original songs, it is a blend of acoustic and electric ensembles and fuses blues with other styles.

“an album of strong and thoughtful tunes played with a delicate touch and I'd recommend it to any fans of the recent Clapton and Cale collaboration.” NZ National Radio – May 2007.

A cut from “ Cad’s Alley” also features on a 2007 compilation “ Harmonica Masters of NZ” and was played on USA syndicated blues show “House of Blues Hour”, hosted by Dan Ackroyd.

Another cut from “ Cad’s Alley”, Louisiana Hurricane, won 3rd place in the 2007 International Song Competition, Nashville; in the Americana, section – the only finalist from the entire southern hemisphere!

Mike appeared at New Caledonia’s arts festival, Live en Aôut in August 2007 which included dates in Noumea and all around the island. He appeared at the Cook Islands Jazz & Blues Festival, Rarotonga, in March 2008 and at the Himalayan Blues Festival, Kathmandu, Nepal in October 2009. He toured Japan in 2014 and in 2015, with harmonica player, Neil Billington. Mike and Neil appeared in the "Live Magic" festival in Tokyo, October 2016.

Mike, with Australian acoustic guitarist Nick Charles, opened the 2010 Mission Estate concert -"The Mowtown Event" in February. The headliners were The Four Tops, The Temptations, The MIracles, Martha and the Vandellas and Jimmy Barnes. The audience numbered about 25,000 that year.
